Teen hit-run arrest, two die on Vic roads

A fiery crash between a truck and three cars has left one man dead and five injured near Shepparton in northern Victoria.

The Monday afternoon crash was the second fatal accident of the day in the Goulburn Valley after a motorcyclist was killed just kilometres away.

The fatalities come as a third teenager was arrested over the death of a man in a hit-run collision involving an allegedly stolen car in Melbourne's northwest on Saturday morning.

Police believe a refrigerated truck crossed the centre line on a sweeping bend and hit a Holden Commodore head-on about 12.30pm.

Both vehicles and a car following each ran off the road as the crash unfolded, one bursting into flames.

The Commodore driver died at the scene.

The truck driver and four others were injured, two seriously, and were all taken to hospital.

Earlier on Monday, a motorcyclist died after veering off a road at Bunbartha, near Shepparton.

He was thrown from the bike and found by a passer-by about 1.15pm, police said.

As police continue to investigate the hit-run crash, a 17-year-old handed himself into police on Monday afternoon.

The victim, a 25-year-old Gisborne man, died when an allegedly stolen black Audi sedan ran a red light at 1am on Saturday and smashed into his car at the Melton Highway and Kings Road intersection, in Taylors Lakes.

It's alleged the Audi then hit a motorcycle and came to a stop before its three balaclava-clad occupants ran off.

Two 17-year-old boys were charged on Sunday with offences including culpable driving, failing to render assistance, and theft of motor vehicle.

The teen who handed himself into police is being interviewed.

The two other teens have been remanded to appear at a Children's Court at a later date.

Victoria's road toll is now 210, nine more than the same time last year.
