Two men shot in a dark Melbourne street

Two men were shot as they walked along a dark street in suburban Melbourne.

A 40-year-old Bentleigh man and a man from Ashwood, 37, each suffered a single gun shot to the lower body from an unknown offender in Chadstone about 5am on Monday.

The two men were taken to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition after the shooting in Woonah Street.

A crime scene has been established and police are appealing for witnesses.
