Two men have appeared in court after they were caught trying to sell fake tickets to the Australian Open men's final between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

The men - both French nationals - have pleaded guilty to attempting to obtain property by deception at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday.

One of the men had arranged to sell two tickets to the Australian Open men's final on Sunday evening for $1000, police say.

When the buyer met the seller at Federation Square on Sunday afternoon and examined the tickets, they realised they were fake and contacted police.

The seller was arrested, and his accomplice was arrested in a nearby car.

The second man had four fraudulent tickets to the Australian Open in his possession, as well as $900 in cash, police say.
