Two hurt as Melbourne tram, car collide

A woman is fighting for life after a car smashed into a tram in Melbourne.

The 66-year-old from East Keilor was a passenger in the vehicle when it collided with the tram on Royal Parade in Parkville on Tuesday afternoon.

Police are investigating reports the car attempted a U-turn in front of the tram.

The male driver, 68, was in a stable condition with chest injuries, an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said.

He and his critically injured passenger were taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital. No one on the tram was hurt.
