Turnbull 'dudding' Victoria in GST funding, Matthew Guy claims

Matthew Guy has taken aim at the Prime Minister, claiming the Turnbull Government is dudding Victoria in GST funding.

"Victoria has been a donor state for far too long we've been a net contributor to every other state since federation," the Victorian Liberal leader said today.

The state now accounts for 26 percent of the country's population.

But Mr Guy said Victorians are being short-changed by Canberra over a lack of GST distribution.

Victoria receives 93 cents back for every dollar it contributes in GST. Queensland receives $1.19, South Australia $1.44 and NSW 88 cents.

However, Sydney has been promised a second international airport and significant roads funding.

"We've been ripped off for many, many, many years, it's time to draw a line in the sand and time for a fairer deal for Victoria," Victoria Shadow Treasurer Michael O'Brien said.

The Opposition has taken the stance during an election year, agreeing with the long-held view of the Andrews Government that Victoria is owed more in federal infrastructure spending.

"I'll leave it to others who've come to that debate rather late to explain why these matters are suddenly important to them," Daniel Andrews said.

Mr Guy has also called on the Victorian Premier to repair his frosty relationship with Canberra.
