Truck containing live chickens rolls on Victorian highway

A truck containing dozens of crates of live chickens has rolled on a highway in North Geelong.

9NEWS’ chopper cam shows the vehicle overturned on Melbourne Road, near Separation Street, about 10.15am. 

The truck driver, a 58-year-old man from Drysdale, has been taken to Geelong University Public Hospital with an arm injury.

He is in a stable condition, Ambulance Victoria said in statement to 9NEWS.

The road will remain closed in both directions until 7pm while crews clean up, Victoria Police said.

Southbound traffic being diverted at Separation Street and northbound traffic is being redirected to Corio Quay Road, VicTraffic advised.

A number of the chickens survived the incident, but it is unknown how many have been injured.
