Vic man jailed for ramming police

A man, who once threw excrement at a juror, has been jailed over a high-speed chase where he rammed a police car and tried to run down an officer.

Jason Brian Paisley, 35, faced two theft charges and three of reckless conduct endangering serious injury in the County Court on Monday.

Judge Sue Pullen said Paisley stole two cars in September 2013, dumping the first when he stole the second, a $91,000 utility.

Police attempted to stop Paisley who was seen driving erratically, speeding and running red lights, but he rammed their car and left the officers inside fearing for their lives, Judge Pullen said.

Another officer got out of a second car fearing it would also be rammed, but instead Paisley drove directly at him, forcing him to jump out of the way.

Police called off the chase when Paisley reached speeds of 135-140km/h in Victoria Street, Moonee Ponds, a 60km/h zone.

He was arrested a month later and has served 643 days in custody since, the court heard.

Paisley was one of the prisoners charged with contempt of court over Melbourne's infamous "Trial from Hell" in 2000, when he threw a bag of excrement over a juror and later singled him out by name.

Judge Pullen said she had little, if any, confidence he could be rehabilitated.

She sentenced him to three and a half years' jail, and ordered he serve at least two and a half years before being eligible for parole.
