Motorist taken to hospital after train hits car on Melbourne level crossing

A motorist has been airlifted to hospital after a passenger train hit a car on a level crossing in southeast Melbourne.
The driver was taken to the Alfred Hospital in a critical condition after being freed by emergency services workers following the collision in Officer just before midday today.
Services on the Pakenham line have been suspended, with buses replacing trains between Berwick and Pakenham.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
