Tradies revive man who had heart attack and fell off bike

A group of tradies in Victoria have revived a cyclist who collapsed and fell off his bike this morning.

The cyclist, aged in his 60s was with a group of other riders when he suffered a cardiac arrest at Portarlington.

Advanced life support paramedic Max Bidstrup said the man suffered head injuries after he fell off his bike and struck a wooden railing.

"Other cyclist immediately started CPR," he said.

"Some tradesmen who were working nearby saw the commotion and went to help. Realising the man’s heart had stopped, they quickly went to nearby businesses looking for an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).

"Three shocks were delivered from the AED and the man regained a pulse just before paramedics arrived."

The man was then stabilised by paramedics and airlifted to The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.

The man is in a critical condition.

"The combined efforts of the other cyclists and the tradesmen have given him the best possible chance of survival," Mr Bidstrup said.
