Man missing in Vic bush for fourth night

A third day of searching has failed to locate missing engineer Taddeo Haigh, who vanished in Victoria's remote alpine region on the weekend.

More than 100 people were involved in Wednesday's massive search for the German-born engineer, who went for a walk from a holiday rental in Sawmill Settlement on Sunday night and didn't return.

Crews widened their search radius to five kilometres and included all walking and bicycle tracks, but Mr Haigh was still missing when searchers suspended efforts about 7pm.

Conditions are expected to drop to eight degrees Celsius overnight.

The search will resume at first light on Thursday.

Mr Haigh's wife, Elizabeth, has said she believes the 31-year-old is lost or injured.

She says his disappearance is completely out of character.

The search for the 31-year-old - known as Ted - is being co-ordinated by Victoria's Search and Rescue Squad with help from local police, the dog squad and mounted police.

The SES and Parks Victoria are also involved, along with bushwalking volunteers from Bush Search and Rescue Victoria.

Mr Haigh is described as Caucasian with a medium build and light brown hair.

The unshaven engineer was last seen wearing a grey hoodie, dark jeans and brown shoes.

Any motorists who travelled through the nearby town of Mansfield and picked someone up from the side of the road, or noticed anyone who looked out of place, should contact police.

Mr Haigh's parents are flying to Australia from Germany to join the search for their son, and are due to arrive on Wednesday night.
