Talks on how to power Vic after Hazelwood

Energy experts will gather in Melbourne to discuss how to power Victoria with its growing reliance on renewables after the closure of the Hazelwood coal fired station.

The Academy of Technology and Engineering's Victoria division will hold a one day symposium on Tuesday examining the challenges of supplying sustainable, reliable and affordable electricity for the state.

Hazelwood's French owners shut down the plant earlier this year and the government has since said it will go it alone with a renewable energy target because of a lack of federal action.

The symposium, titled After Hazelwood - Victoria's Electricity Future, will feature speakers including Australian Energy Market Operator advisory panel chair Chloe Munro, CSIRO chief energy economist Paul Graham and Australia Industry Group chief executive Innes Willox.
