Suspicious house fire in Melbourne's north

A suspicious house fire in Melbourne's north will be investigated.

Metropolitan Fire Brigade crews were called to the blaze in an empty, single storey Northcote house around 6.38am on Tuesday after a neighbour saw smoke.

The fire, which was contained to the roof and rear of the property, would likely come with a "substantial damage bill", the MFB says.
