A Victorian coroner is expected to hold a summary inquest into the death of underworld figure Dino Dibra, who was shot dead 17 years ago.

The 25-year-old was gunned down in October 2000 in a Sunshine West street, after visiting associates at a Sunshine house.

He was believed murdered by now-deceased gangland figure Andrew Veniamin.

Summary inquests are mandatory in homicide cases where no one has been charged. No witnesses are called.

Judge Sara Hinchey will preside over the hearing and either deliver a finding at the end, or adjourn to a later date.

The Dibra killing is one of five summary inquests to be conducted on Thursday into uncharged homicides between 2000-2011.
