A suburban Melbourne councillor is accused of failing to disclose his financial interests and extensive property portfolio.

Wyndham City Labor councillor Intaj Khan has been charged with nine offences under the Local Government Act.

He failed to disclose companies in which he held office and financial interests, and failed to disclose property holdings and submit ordinary returns, the Local Government Investigations and Compliance Inspectorate said on Wednesday.

The charges relate to the 12 months to February, and do not disqualify Khan from his position as councillor.

"It is important to note that these charges ... (do) not reflect on Wyndham City Council, which continues to provide good governance for the municipality," chief municipal inspector David Wolf said in a statement.

Khan is due to appear in Werribee Magistrates Court on September 27.
