Student 'found with ketamine' at Melbourne girls' high school formal

Two Melbourne students have been suspended and the police called after a girl was allegedly caught with the drug ketamine at a school formal.

The party drug and horse tranquiliser, known as Special K, was found in the possession of a student from Mentone Girls’ Secondary College at their VCE ball on Friday night, The Herald Sun reports.

It is not known what involvement the second suspended student played in the incident.

The school’s principal Linda Brown confirmed the suspension and said the school had a zero tolerance policy for drugs.

“We do not tolerate drugs at this school and continue to be vigilant about keeping our school free from drugs,” she said.

“Like all schools, we work hard to educate our students on the dangers of drugs and we are now working with the families of those involved.

“If anyone has any information relating to drugs at our school I would strongly urge them to contact us or the police.”

A spokesperson for Victoria’s Department of Education told the Herald Sun such incidents at schools were rare.

“Our schools are a reflection of our communities and unfortunately the problems that we see in our community sometimes raise their heads in our schools,” she said.

“Where a student becomes involved with drugs they are supported by the school, including through a wellbeing team, student support officers and via other agencies.”
