Stanley the horse rescued in Vic

Emergency crews used a stretcher and crane to help a horse that had slipped and fallen inside its float in the Dandenong Ranges.

Stanley the horse was unable to stand up without the help of CFA crews, the SES and local vets when he fell on Sunday morning at Doongala Pony Club in Montrose.

Macclesfield CFA captain Sharon Merritt said the brigade's horse rescue team had been called on for their expertise and equipment, including a rescue glide mat (like a stretcher for horses) used to slide Stanley out of the float.

They got the horse out of the float fairly quickly but took a while to get him back on his feet while crews waited for the sedatives to wear off.

Horses unable to stand can get serious health issues.
