Police find car used to ram Vic ambulance

Police have found the car used to ram an ambulance in Melbourne overnight but the man who used it to threaten paramedics is still on the run.

The car was recovered from South Yarra about 9am on Saturday after police received a tip-off from a member of the public.

Police believe it is the same car used to ram an ambulance in Flemington on Friday night, and think it was stolen from Carlton before the ambulance was damaged.

The ambulance was rammed after paramedics went to check on a man who was spotted asleep at the wheel of a car in a fast food outlet carpark about 7.30pm.

When a paramedic approached the driver and woke him, he immediately drove into their ambulance, which was parked in front of his car, police say.

The driver then reversed several times before driving into the ambulance again, as well as two other vehicles.

The two paramedics were not injured, but Ambulance Victoria say the incident is worrying.

"There were multiple attempts at ramming the ambulance before fleeing the scene," acting manager Michael Georgiou told reporters on Saturday.

"No one deserves to come to work and be treated with such violence or aggression, or physical injury."

Police believe several people may have filmed the incident and are calling on them to come forward.
