Sky rail angers more Melbourne residents

Melbourne residents say they were never told of the state government's plans to build a nine-metre rail bridge behind their homes.

Critics have taken to Labor MP Steve Dimopoulos' Facebook page accusing him of keeping them in the dark about the proposed Cranbourne-Pakenham sky rail.

Designs for elevated rail lines along Melbourne's busiest public transport corridor were submitted to the state government in January.

But there are concerns the open space beneath the overpass will create a ghetto.

"You can sell this all you like, it is nothing but a cheap option," Fiona Lancaster wrote.

"We will now have another concrete eye sore (sic) to look at."

Many are furious about the lack of transparency surrounding the proposal.

They support removing level crossings but say there were never consulted about the sky rail.

"This is an utter disgrace. We have been completely blindsided with this proposal ... we are absolutely furious," Adriana Bainbridge said.

Others are worried the government will go ahead with the project despite their objections.

"Please don't confuse our desperation to have the level crossings removed with us accepting any old crap design you have decided upon," Megan O'Connor said.

"Are you going to let us have any input into the decision of skyrail or has it already been made for us?," firefighter Matt Rasmussen asked.

The commentators, apparently locals in Mr Dimopoulos' Oakleigh seat, are the latest group of residents to say they weren't properly consulted about a $1.6 billion plan to raise 9km of the Cranbourne-Pakenham line to remove nine level crossings.

Opposition leader Matthew Guy says a sky rail is "not the kind of place you'd put back onto existing homes".

Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan said residents were door-knocked with information on Saturday but there had been a broader consultation process, which began last year.
