A second man has been charged over the murder of a Melbourne mother-of-three in the city's west more than 12 years ago.

A 50-year-old Taylors Lake man was charged on Thursday with murdering Cindy Crossthwaite on June 20, 2007.

Ms Crossthwaite, 41, was found dead at her Melton South home by her father, Philip.

He had gone to check on his daughter after she failed to pick up two of her children from school.

The charge comes a little more than a week after Emil Petrov, 55, faced court over the murder of his estranged wife, Ms Crossthwaite.

A $1 million reward for information into the killing remains on offer.

The second man is due to face Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.
