Safe Schools manager quits after calling Australian flag 'racist'

Safe Schools Coalition manager Roz Ward has resigned from her Victorian government advisory role after labelling the Australian flag as racist in a Facebook post.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on Tuesday apologised to the LGBTI community for past laws that criminalise homosexual behaviour.

To celebrate the event, a rainbow flag was hoisted over Parliament House.

According to News Corp Australia reports, Ms Ward posted a picture of the rainbow flag to her Facebook account with the words: "Now we just need to get rid of the racist Australian flag on top of state parliament and get a red one up there and my work is done".

She announced her resignation on Friday night.

The Safe Schools Coalition is made up of organisations and schools working together to create safe and inclusive school environments for same sex attracted, intersex and gender diverse students, staff and families.

Opposition spokesman Nick Wakeling described Ms Ward's comments as "appalling".

A government spokeswoman said the decision to resign was a decision by Ms Ward.
