SA man drives into water drunk, police say

A man who allegedly was extremely drunk crashed his car into a stobie pole while another drove into an inlet in drink-driving incidents in South Australia.

SA police cited a 20-year-old for drink driving and contravening "P" plate rules after he hit a stobie pole at Henley Beach early on Saturday before recording a blood alcohol reading of 0.312.

He lost his licence for 12 months and his car was impounded for 28 days, officers say.

Just hours later, at about 7am, a 41-year-old was reported for drink driving after he drove down a Garden Island boat ramp into the water, and then left his sinking car.

Police who found the vehicle submerged and the man not far away allege he recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.119 .

His licence was suspended for six months and they charged him with drink driving and driving unregistered, uninsured and with an expired licence.

Both men will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
