RSPCA takes aim at Aldi over cage eggs

The RSPCA is taking aim at Aldi for continuing to sell cage eggs in its supermarkets.

The animal welfare agency has started an online petition, asking people to write to the supermarket and voice concern over the company's lack of commitment to phase out cage eggs.

Coles has stopped selling cage eggs under its own branded lines and Woolworths will phase out all cage eggs by 2018.

The RSPCA says Aldi is yet to make any decision about cage eggs and has remained silent on the issue.

Aldi Australia says cage eggs sold in their stores follow welfare codes and possibly exceed industry standards.

But people have taken to social media to admonish the supermarket with some people urging a boycott until the company makes a commitment to phase out cage eggs.
