Man seriously injured in house fire

A man has been airlifted to hospital in a serious condition after fire ripped through his home, north of Melbourne, overnight.

Emergency services were called to Stawell Street, Romsey, after reports of a fire about 2.30am.

Crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames, with the two occupants- a man aged in his 40s and a primary school-aged girl- escaping the intense fire.

The man was flown to the Alfred Hospital with burns to his hands, and remains there in a serious but stable condition.

The girl was taken to the Royal Children’s hospital suffering smoke inhalation, and is in a stable condition.
