Melbourne Lord Mayor Robert Doyle re-elected

Melbourne's Lord Mayor Robert Doyle has been returned to the position for a third term after Victoria's council elections.

Mr Doyle and his deputy Arron Wood received 44.62 percent of first preference votes, with the Greens team of Olivia Ball and Roxane Ingleton the closest rivals at 21.27 percent of first preferences.

"Very humbled and grateful that I have been re-elected as Lord Mayor of the city I love. New team, but have lost some great contributors," Mr Doyle tweeted this afternoon. 

The Victorian Electoral Commission rolled out the local council election results across the state shortly after 5pm.
