Man bashed with golf club in alleged road rage attack

A man was taken to hospital after he was attacked with a golf club in what police say was a road rage incident in Melbourne on the weekend.

The 61-year-old man was driving through roadworks on the Melton Highway, between Banchory Avenue and Calder Park drive in Sydenham, at about 12pm on Saturday, July 4.

Another car rammed the back of his vehicle numerous times, and the man pulled over once he was through the roadworks.

The offending driver also pulled over and got out of his car armed with a golf club.

He struck the 61-year-old on the leg and also smashed his windscreen before driving off.

The Caroline Springs man was taken to hospital with severe bruising.

His vehicle, rendered undriveable, was towed from the scene.

Police have now released images and CCTV footage of a man they wish to speak to regarding the incident.

He is believed to be of Pacific Islander descent, about 180cm tall, and heavyset.

He was wearing a red, long-sleeve top, dark-coloured shorts, and thongs.
