Refugee families escaping war in Syria and Iraq are about to benefit from funding of $1 million to help them settle in Tasmania.

The Tasmanian government said on Friday it was part of a package to help refugees learn English, get a drivers licence, and reunite with family members.

"This State has an important role to play in responding to the on-going global humanitarian crisis and supporting our new arrivals," Tasmania's Parliamentary Secretary Sarah Courtney said in a statement.
