Red tape costs Victoria billions : report

The burden of red tape has potentially cost Victoria up to $6.4 billion in the past 10 years, an auditor-general's report has found.

Additional red tape created in the same period has cost the state as much as $5.5 billion, while red tape reduction programs created only $3.1 billion in savings.

The report recommends better ways for departments and agencies to identify red tape and reduce it by improving consultation with the Department of Treasury and Finance.
