Prisoners riot at youth detention centre in Victoria

Inmates have caused extensive damage to a building at a youth detention centre in Malmsbury, central Victoria.

Video shows inmates on the roof of Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre around 5.30pm yesterday, repeatedly beating down windows and damaging property.

It took staff at the centre two hours to bring the prisoners under control, an official statement said.

No one was injured in the incident and police were not required to assist.

The riot follows similar incidents at the Southbank and Westgate units Melbourne Youth Justice Centre earlier this week.
