Attack on Vic pregnant woman: court

A man allegedly tackled a heavily pregnant woman off her bike and tried to rape her before being stopped by a group of Melbourne men.

Casey Tennent, 20, dragged the woman off a Brunswick bike track and into some bushes on Sunday night, putting his hand on her throat, police say.

She yelled that she was pregnant and to get off her, but he allegedly pushed down harder into her stomach as she struggled, court documents show.

Tennent, of Coburg, was allegedly trying to pull the woman's pants down when a man stopped after he saw the pair in the bushes.

The woman yelled: "Help, he is trying to rape me!" before Tennent allegedly fled on foot, with the man chasing him on his bike.

More men joined the chase and Tennent was surrounded, before being taken down and restrained, police say.

Tennent was allegedly aggressive, and is accused of punching one of the men in the face.

After being arrested by police, he allegedly said he had "imagined doing it and dreamed about it and decided to do it tonight".

Tennent allegedly told police he had taken an unknown pill and had been drinking for hours, court documents show.

The woman was taken to hospital after the assault and it's not yet clear whether her unborn baby has been injured.

Tennent was remanded in custody after appearing in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

He faces seven charges, including unlawful assault, attempting to commit rape and intentionally causing injury.

Tennent is due to reappear in court in July.
