Probe into police van crash in Melb

An early morning crash between a police van responding to an emergency and another car in Melbourne is being investigated.

Two police officers and the driver of the car were injured when the cars collided at a Dandenong intersection.

The police van had its lights flashing and had driven through a red light when it was hit from behind by the other car, at 1.40am on Thursday.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Gladstone and Heatherton roads.

"It is understood that in the course of the urgent duty driving, the police van went through a red light," a police statement said.

"The circumstances of the collision will be reviewed."

The driver of the car, a 46-year-old Narre Warren South man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries as were two policewomen.
