Police text woman during high-speed chase

Victorian police ended a high-speed chase after texting the driver and asking her to hand herself in.

The 22-year-old woman failed to stop during a short police pursuit in St Kilda at 1am this morning.

Local police called off the chase on St Kilda Road when the woman allegedly ran a red light.

The Reservoir woman handed herself in this morning after she received a text from police urging her to make herself known.

She has since been charged with reckless conduct endangering persons, evading police, driving in a dangerous manner and at dangerous speed.

It is not known what the text message said but it's understood that police tracked down her number through her car registration.

The woman has been bailed by police to appear at Melbourne's Magistrates Court on July 10.
