Police test gun over attempted Melb murder

A sawn-off shotgun possibly used in a violent armed robbery and attempted murder in Melbourne nearly five years ago is being tested by police.

Two men aggressively threatened staff with a gun at a Kingsville bottle shop before firing a shot into the cash register in October 2011.

They didn't get any cash, but left with alcohol.

As they fled the pair fired a shot at a man who was sitting in his car in a nearby street, leaving him with serious hand injuries.

Police will not say where they found the firearm, or who owned it, but have sent it for testing to confirm if it was the weapon used in both incidents.

No one has been arrested in relation to the crimes.
