Police seek help in Vic cold-case murder

An old rego number might help police crack the 22-year unsolved murder of a Melbourne taxi driver.

Police believe a DNA sample lifted with new technology has taken them closer to finding who shot Emanuel Sapountzakis and dumped his body in the Dandenong Police Paddocks in 1993.

Detectives now believe the 25-year-old was involved with people linked to the drug trade and they may have arranged his death.

Police have a description of a car - a maroon-coloured Nissan Skyline with a rego number including "DSD" - which may have been the murderer's getaway vehicle.

They hope someone can give them information to crack the case, and a $50,000 reward is on offer for information leading to a conviction.
