Police probe alleged Vic fixed horse race

Police are continuing to investigate an alleged fixed harness race that occurred in country Victoria last year.

Two men and two women were arrested on Sunday at the Breeders Crown meeting and were released pending further investigations.

The alleged fixed race occurred in Cobram in June 2015.

Harness Racing Victoria's integrity unit was alerted to the issues shortly after the Cobram meeting and began an investigation immediately, before handing the matter to police in November.

Chairman Dale Monteith said on Monday HRV would consider suspending the racing licences of those arrested if charges are laid.

Victorian Racing Integrity Commissioner Sal Perna says race fixing is rare in the state and there's nothing to suggest the issue is systemic.

"This (the arrests) shows that Harness Racing Victoria is on the ball," Mr Perna told AAP on Monday.

"They've picked up something that's suspicious and the system that's in place has worked. So from a lot of perspectives this is a positive."
