The stolen car that clipped a police officer at the scene of a fatal crash in country Victoria has been found but the driver is still on the run.

The stolen car was found in a creek at Corio about 7.30am on Wednesday.

The car had fled a crash site in Leopold late on Tuesday after hitting the lower leg of an officer cordoning off the area.

Police did not give chase as they tended to their colleague, who suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

A 31-year-old local man had earlier died when he lost control and crashed into a tree.

Police say the two incidents are not thought to be linked.

Another man, who is yet to be identified, died in another crash in Kerrie, near Gisbourne, at 7am on Wednesday.

It's believed a kangaroo caused the driver to drive off the road.

The deaths bring Victoria's road toll to 162 - 21 more than at the same time last year.
