Petrol bomb lobbed at Vic shop

A man and a woman have escaped unhurt from a molotov cocktail attack on a Melbourne shop.

The petrol bomb was thrown through the window of a South Melbourne shop early on Tuesday as the couple slept upstairs, police said.

It lit a small fire in a hall and was quickly extinguished.

A second, unlit petrol bomb was found on the footpath outside.

The shop is vacant but is being renovated to reopen as a tattoo parlour.

Police said it was the second time in the past few days that the shop had been targeted, although they could not specify the nature of the earlier attack.

The attacks are not thought to be related to outlawed motorcycle gang activity.
