Pedestrian killed after hit by car in south-east Melbourne

A man has died after being struck by a car in south-east Melbourne.

The as-yet unidentified victim tried to cross from the north side of North Road around 8.30pm (AEDT) in Brighton East.

Police said the driver of the car, a McKinnon woman in her 40's, is assisting investigators.

East bound lanes on North Road are closed from Sussex Road as police examine the scene.
