Abusive Vic priest's sentence is delayed

A former Catholic priest who used cigarettes and computer games to lure schoolboys into his boarding house office before raping them is likely to get a shorter jail term following his retrial when he is sentenced next week.

David Edwin Rapson, who is already in custody, was due to be sentenced for five counts of rape and six counts of indecent assault on Monday after the Court of Appeal quashed the 61-year-old's previous convictions 12 months into his 13-year sentence.

Victorian County Court judge James Parrish delayed the sentencing until next week but said "you would expect something less than 13 years, but in that range".
