Passenger steals Melbourne cab

A Melbourne taxi driver has had his car stolen as he drove two passengers to popular Lygon St.

The driver picked the two men up from Carlton early on Thursday, and at Lygon Street one pulled out a knife and demanded cash.

The driver and the second passenger got out of the taxi, and the armed man stole the car, dumping it in Barkly St a short time later.

Police described the main offender as about 180cm tall, with a thin build and blonde curly hair.

He was wearing a cap, a grey, hooded top and three-quarter pants.
