Parks Victoria fined for dirty water dump

Parks Victoria has been fined for dumping untreated waste water into a river - the organisation's 16th environmental breach in six years.

Environment Protection Authority Victoria has fined Parks Victoria more than $7500 for discharging contaminated wastewater into the Buchan River in Gippsland.

EPA Gippsland manager Stephen Lansdell said the dumped water had come from the wastewater treatment plant at the caravan park near the river.

"While the site is allowed to discharge treated wastewater, Parks Victoria has breached its EPA licence limits on as many as 16 occasions since 2011," Mr Lansdell said on Thursday.

A spokesman from Parks Victoria said the issue was self-reported by the organisation.
