Police release images of pair that allegedly stabbed man on Melbourne tram

Police are seeking a man and a woman who allegedly stabbed and slashed a man on a Melbourne tram after accusing him of staring.

Authorities have released reconstructed images of the pair of suspects they hope to speak to in relation to the attack.

Police say a Docklands man in his 20s was on the Route 16 tram in St Kilda when the offending pair boarded the tram at Luna park around 3.30pm on March 2.

During the journey, the male offender accused the man of staring at him.

"As the tram approached the corner of Carlisle Street and Brighton Road, the victim was stabbed in the chest by the male," police said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The female also stabbed the victim, slashing his back and arms with a knife."

The male offender is described as being in his late 20s to early 30s with brown shaggy hair, 180cm tall, of medium build, with decaying teeth and some top teeth missing.

The female offender is described as being in her late 20s to early 30s, with a gaunt sunken face, dark shoulder length hair, thin build and 160cm tall.

At the time of the attack she had scratches on her face and was wearing blue ripped jeans.
