Alleged hoons arrested after dangerous footage posted online

Three alleged hoons have been arrested in a special police operation after videos of a dangerous illegal meet in Melbourne's north were posted on social media.

Videos posted online captured the alleged hoons committing dangerous offences at different meets in Tullamarine and Thomastown.

Police executed warrants today arresting the accused and impounding their cars.

In one clip, a man can be seen hanging out the passenger side window of a 1994 Ford Falcon.

In another, a crowd of spectators are forced to leap out of the path of an out-of-control car.

Victoria Police Acting Senior Sergeant Simon Borg told 9News the behaviour of the drivers was "incredibly dangerous".

"These things have gone real bad and people have died (before) so the objective for us is to prevent that from occurring," he said.

"Those involved in racing around our streets and performing out-of-control burnouts, as well as those lining the streets to watch are not just taking part in a bit of fun – this has significant potential to end in disaster.

"For this reason, we do not just target hoon drivers as part of Operation Achilles, but also those who organise, attend and ultimately fuel organised hoon driving events."

The hoons were targeted under Operation Achilles, an operation that has seen police arrest 67 drivers and impound 100 cars this year.

A 23-year-old Mill Park man, 21-year-old Craigieburn man and 19-year-old Point Cook man were arrested today.

They were charged with reckless conduct endangering life, among other traffic offences, before being bailed.

The vehicles will remain in the custody of police until court proceedings are finalised.
