Victorian non-government schools received $676 million in funding in 2014 but there's no way to tell if it's been spent where it should, the state's auditor-general has found.

A new report has found there is a lack of transparency and accountability for the use of state government grants in non-government schools.

There are significant weaknesses with the Department of Education & Training's funding agreements with non-government schools, and their administrators, and its management of grants has been poor, acting auditor-general Peter Frost said in a statement on Wednesday.
