No plans to shut down Vic dogs racing

The greyhound industry is being reformed but Victoria's premier believes calls for it to be shut down are heavy-handed.

"There is a bit of debate about that today - our priority is not to be, if you like, heavy-handed and talking about closing down the industry," Daniel Andrews told reporters in Melbourne on Tuesday.

Victoria's greyhound racing board had been replaced, and his government was determined to clean up an industry hit by a national live-baiting scandal and NSW reports of a high number of dog deaths, Mr Andrews said.
