An autopsy on skeletal remains discovered under the family home of missing Victorian man Daniel O'Keeffe has found the death wasn't suspicious.

Mr O'Keefe's family, who had been searching for him for five years, say the remains reportedly uncovered by his father Des on Monday belong to Daniel.

The family last saw the 24-year-old at their home, in Highton, near Geelong, on July 15, 2011.

Police say no suspicious circumstances were identified during the autopsy.

"While the current circumstances surrounding the death are not considered to be suspicious, a thorough investigation is being conducted," Victoria Police said in a statement on Wednesday.

The O'Keeffe family said on Tuesday they were overwhelmed by the support they had for the community during their five-year search but devastated about the way it ended.

The remains are yet to be formally identified.
