No end country named in terror tinnie plot

Prosecutors in the so-called terror tinnie case are being pushed to name the alleged final destination for a group of six men accused of trying to become fighters for Islamic State.

Islamic preacher Robert "Musa" Cerantonio is one of six men charged over the alleged plot to sail from Australia to join IS.

In preparation for a committal hearing in May, Cerantonio's lawyers are challenging prosecutors to name a final destination for the group.

His barrister Gideon Boas argued in a Melbourne court on Tuesday the lack of a nominated destination meant there is a "world of possibilities" for countries and it is inhibiting preparations.

Cerantonio was named in a research paper as one of the most influential jihadis in foreign fighter networks.

His lawyers also want to cross-examine the academic who wrote the paper because it was referenced in a police statement.

The argument over the matters will continue at another hearing in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on March 24.
