New trains for Melbourne's busiest line

Melbourne's busiest line is getting bigger and better trains, but there won't be price hikes coming with the upgrade.

The 37 new high-capacity trains destined for the Cranbourne-Pakenham line will be longer than existing trains and boost passenger numbers by 11,000 every morning during peak hour.

The Victorian government wants half of the design and construction to take place locally and anticipates the upgrade will create hundreds of jobs for Victorians.
