New COVID-19 case in Victoria as mystery infection linked to outbreak

Victoria has recorded an additional COVID-19 case this evening which will be included in tomorrow's numbers.

The Department of Health confirmed the infection late today.

"The local public health unit in Gippsland has earlier today reported a new positive case in Bass Coast Shire," a statement from the Chief Health Officer read.

"And that the person has been in quarantine throughout their infectious period.

"This case will be reported in tomorrow's case numbers."

A mystery COVID-19 case included in today's numbers in a worker at a testing site has now been linked.

The Department of Health said genomic testing results confirmed it was connected to the current outbreaks, but did not confirm how.

Investigations are underway to determine how the man caught the virus.

Meanwhile, a Melbourne apartment building has been identified as a Tier One exposure site after being deemed a high-risk location.

"Public health officials have conducted a risk assessment and put in place a resident support service at an apartment complex at 190 Riversdale Rd, Hawthorn," the Department of Health said in a statement.

"Due to a high risk of transmission, a section of the complex has been designated a Tier 1 site as a precaution."

Residents in the area of concern must now get tested and isolate for 14 days regardless of the result.

The remainder of building has been designated a Tier Two site.

There are no positive cases are present in the building.

Victoria currently has 205 active cases in the state.
