Man charged with stabbing murder in Melbourne’s south-east faces court

A 32-year-old man charged with murder over a fatal stabbing on Friday night was withdrawing from cannabis and alcohol, a court heard this morning.

Shane Brown, from Cranbourne, appeared briefly in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court dressed in a dark-coloured jumper, and was not required to speak before bail before Magistrate Alan Spillane.

The court was told by Mr Brown’s lawyer, Samantha Liddy, that he was withdrawing from cannabis and alcohol.

Police have confirmed the pair are known to each other.

The Age has reported the two men are brothers, however police would not confirm.

The victim’s name was also removed from charge sheets.

Police were called to the home on Camms Road just after 9pm, however the 38-year-old victim was found dead at the scene.

Mr Brown sat hunched over with his head in his hands during the brief mention, and did not apply for bail. 

No family members were in the gallery today.

He was remanded in custody and will appear in court on Wednesday for a filing hearing.
