Vic murder accused denies admissions

A man charged with murder after a body was found in an inner-city Melbourne flat has denied admitting the stabbing as he faced an out-of-sessions bail hearing.

The court heard Kevin Curtin, 57, was interviewed by police after they found a knife and "a quantity of blood" in his Kensington apartment during a search after the discovery of the body of Stephen Darrall on Thursday morning.

A police investigator said Curtin made admissions during the interview, which Curtin denied.

"I didn't make admissions," he said, appearing at the hearing with a black eye, scratches to his face and without shoes.

A post-mortem examination found Mr Darrall died from a stab wound.

A second man police interviewed has been released.

Asked if he has any medical conditions, Curtin replied, "Where do I start."

He said he suffers from emphysema, anxiety and has trouble with the discs in his back but was not currently medicated.

When asked if he understood the charge he was facing, he replied, "Murder, they were saying."

He said he would be seeking new legal representation.

"I asked 100 times for a solicitor to get me my mobile phone from home."

Curtin was remanded to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Saturday morning.
